Born in 1958 to an Irish Catholic family, Catherine was one of eight siblings. “I grew up in a tiny village in the Cotswolds, " she says. "It was just a few miles from where Laurie Lee wrote
Cider With Rosie. My mother was a nurse and my father was a potter.” It was in this rural setting that Catherine’s creativity took root – she began to work in highly colourful sketchbooks, a habit which continues to the present day.

On her Degree course at Falmouth School of Art, Catherine met her husband, the artist and writer, Laurence Anholt. Together they moved to London and Catherine took a Master’s Degree at the Royal College of Art where she was offered the Rome Scholarship.

Over the next 25 years the Anholts collaborated on nearly 200 highly successful children’s books, which have won numerous awards. They raised three children; Claire and twins, Tom and Maddy and the family settled near Lyme Regis in Dorset.

Throughout this time, Catherine continued to work in her studio on hundreds of large fluid drawings and paintings, which, until now she shared only with family and friends. Her themes were pregnancy, childbirth and a love of family and nature.

Catherine takes an almost childlike pleasure in the exploratory process of creating art. “Ever since I can remember, painting has been a door into my own world.”

More than anything, Catherine’s work is a celebration of  colour  and the sheer joy of being alive!

All images on this site are unique works of art which are available for sale and worldwide delivery, prices on request.
